The Emmys Award Show had a bit of a controversy happen following the 2021 event. Despite there being a record-setting number of non-white nominees, with 44 percent of the nominees being minorities, every award given for the night went to a white celebrity.

This fact was not lost on social media, who before the event even started was counting up the nominees and winners to see if something similar to Oscars So White would happen with the Emmys. As the awards rolled out, the hashtag #EmmysSoWhite rapidly began trending on Twitter.

There were plenty of people who were trying to make a case for things, with the most singled out topic being The Crown, a British show that had multiple award winners. It seemed a connection was attempting to be made between the British TV sector and the small amount of non-white winners, as well as the impact award shows have when they only give awards to the same type of things year after year.
