A post currently going viral on Twitter / X presents a scientific study suggesting that EDM DJs are suffering from cognitive decline and that anti-Alzheimer's drugs can "help" them not want to be EDM DJs anymore, but, funny as that may be, it is satire.
The hoax was started by Twitter user @somewheresy, who presented a convincing-looking screenshot of a study investigating the effect of anti-Alzheimer's drugs on EDM DJs. The abstract states that the 29 DJs who participated in the study all lost interest in their careers after taking doses of the leading anti-Alzheimer's drug for two weeks.
The replies to @somewheresy's post — many of which, notably, come from people who pay for Twitter Blue — see people debating the methodology and implications of the "study," apparently not realizing it is satirical.
Though the "study" presented by @somewheresy is outlandish enough to tip off the fact it's a joke, a search of medical studies also proves that no such paper exists. Searching "alzheimer's edm dj" in the National Library of Medicine does not bring up a "study" showing the effects of anti-Alzheimer's drugs on EDM DJs.
This morning, @somewheresy tried a variation on the same joke, this time with a fake study investigating cognitive decline in "Disney Adults." This one is a little gussied up with more information and @somewheresy claiming it was done by the "University of Florida," but it is also satire.
Thus, @somewheresy has provided the internet with a valuable lesson: don't believe everything you read just because it's presented in LaTeX.
