The young YouTuber Kane Parsons, best known for his creepy video series on The Backrooms, is being given the chance of a lifetime following an announcement in the horror movie world yesterday.

A24, a company known for taking creative risks (especially with horror), is handing the reins and funding to the 17-year-old to create his vision of a feature-length film of the found-footage Backrooms series. Revealed yesterday, the news already has a lot of fans of Kane and The Backrooms in general buzzing with excitement.

That being said, not everyone was happy with this announcement either. creepypasta purists who have begun to despise the trend of online scary stories becoming commercialized and made mainstream, are once again calling foul for the movie being yet another example of a creepypasta getting watered down, similarly to Slenderman several years ago.

With no footage or pictures from the set shared so far (as filming doesn't start until the summer), it's impossible to know what quality can be expected from the movie proper, only that it is based on The Backrooms, a Creepypasta about a mystical dimension that people fall into whenever they're out of alignment with reality, said to be an endless maze harboring a creature of some sort.

With The Backrooms trending into today, others have taken the chance to voice their criticism or post memes about the series — a common sight whenever news of an IP happens online.

At this time, the upcoming Backrooms film does not have an official title or a release date.
