Guy Thinks Former NBA Star Dwayne Wade Is The Guy In 'Roe V. Wade,' Spawning Flurry Of Memes

The news that the Supreme Court is potentially on the verge of overturning Roe v. Wade has undoubtedly rocked social media this week, and while the potential reversal has weighed heavily on the minds of women's rights activists, it has also led to some darkly humorous moments on social media — such as the fallout from one man on Twitter who appears to believe that the "Wade" in "Roe v. Wade" is former NBA star Dwayne Wade.

In response to a Variety story about Wade (Dwayne) commenting on parents with trans kids, Twitter user @Eddy_Brian11 set out to determine why Wade was so prominently featured in recent headlines.

To be clear, Dwayne Wade is not the Wade of Roe v. Wade. That Wade refers to Henry Wade, a Texas district attorney in 1973 and the defendant against a woman with the pseudonym "Jane Roe" who argued Texas' abortion laws were unconstitutional.

Mr. Brian's confusion left Twitter users slackjawed that someone could make that mistake, considering Dwayne Wade was not even alive at the time Roe v. Wade passed.

Soon, memes about the "classic" NBA rivalry of "Roe vs. Dwayne Wade" started hitting Twitter.

While Mr. Brian's apparent error was humorous for many Twitter users, one wonders what Brian thinks of Marbury v. Madison, the famous case where NBA point guard Stephon Marbury established the precedent for the United States Supreme Court to strike laws that violate the Constitution (this is a joke).
