Kevin Durant is a legendary basketball player and poster, and luckily he only has to retire from being the former.

After Team USA's heart-pounding victory over Nikola Jokic-led Serbia yesterday during the 2024 Summer Olympics, Kevin Durant found time – at a little after 5 in the morning Paris time – to engage with a Twitter / X user he apparently perceived to be disrespecting the U.S. team.

Durant was tweeting at Swipa Cam, a sports influencer and pundit from Denver, which may explain why he was celebrating Jokic, a star on the NBA's Denver Nuggets when he's not playing for Serbia.

The post caused the ever-contentious NBA faction of Twitter users to litigate whether Durant was in the right for coming after a guy ostensibly celebrating Serbia's strong fight in their four-point loss to Team USA. Some felt Durant was rightfully responding to disrespect from an American basketball fan, while others found it an overreaction to what seemed like a nice post.

After hours of basketball Twitter debating the merits of Durant's response, the star forward returned to Twitter to continue the conversation. He explained that he felt American Jokic fans were rooting against Team USA and he believed "trolling" such fans was fair game.

He also tweeted the issues he had with NBA fan culture, claiming it leans too much into idol worship and division, describing NBA stan Twitter like one might K-pop stan Twitter.

While the tweets certainly caused discourse among NBA fans, more neutral observers were simply left in awe of Durant's commitment to posting, something the multi-millionaire basketball icon certainly doesn't have to have.

Durant will play alongside Team USA in the team's Gold Medal match Saturday against France. Durant already has several Gold Medals from previous Olympics, but it seems Twitter is ready to give him the Gold Medal in Posting he so rightfully deserves.
