Liz Cheney Battles Negative Memes And Her Own Party In Tuesday's Primary Election
Congresswoman Liz Cheney, arguably the most prominent anti-Trump figure in the Republican Party, is running for re-election in a Wyoming primary today and her chances reportedly don’t look good. Polls show her trailing her opponent, Harriet Hageman, and essentially every major figure in her party has joined in dunking on her on social media today.
Today, Wyoming voters will send Harriet Hageman to Congress and send Liz Cheney packing! You’re fired, Liz! pic.twitter.com/Nvi6MoyJj3

Cheney’s name and the phrase “She’s gone” trended as figures like House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy expressed confidence that she would soon be out of office. Colleagues like Lauren Boebert also teased Cheney online, and pro-Trump memers joined in, a number of them comparing her appearance to Miss Piggy from The Muppets.
Good Morning to everyone except for Liz Cheney, who gets thrown into the trash heap of irrelevance today!

Liz Cheney, she's gone like Biden's mind after today's primary.😆😆 pic.twitter.com/HJQhoPpIhr

Cheney’s candidacy has been framed as a referendum on the work of the January 6th Committee. The daughter of an establishment political dynasty running in deep-red Wyoming has placed her opposition to the former President and the historic events carried out by his supporters at the center of her campaign, pinning a tweet about the insurrection to her Twitter profile.
Adam Kinzinger, the only other Republican who joined her on the January 6th Committee, declined to run for re-election. This stands in stark contrast to people such as McCarthy, who have embraced Trump in hopes of improving their position in the party.
This was January 6th.

Many praised her for standing up for her values, surrendering her powerful position in House Republican leadership and likely her congressional seat to run the investigation.
Profiles in courage are rare in politics.
Liz Cheney stands out.
If she’s gone from office after today primary it confirms that the GOP values fealty to a tyrant over everything else.— Chris Hahn (@ChristopherHahn) August 16, 2022
I always thought Liz Cheney was a sort of prototypical representative of Wyoming; uncompromisingly conservative with a focus on personal liberty. Now that she's gone, it's time to recognize the people of Wyoming would prefer a fascist toady loyal only to a NYC TV star's ego.

Wyoming is going to send Liz Cheney packing and for the first time in over a hundred years we will no longer have any Bush’s, McCain’s, Cheney’s or Clinton’s in office.

Many joked about how Cheney (and others like her) are politically homeless, caught between a Republican party that has become all about Trump and a Democratic party that would never welcome them.
Liz Cheney. She’s gone. pic.twitter.com/7g9suRD439

Wyoming Republicans, the only Republican in that state that's got a pair is Liz Cheney; at least she's not this… pic.twitter.com/72YpTNOWUD

Cheney’s perceived determination to go down fighting has attracted a lot of attention, however, and it’s likely even if she loses that this won’t be the last we see of her.
