Kaylen Ward, better known as The Naked Philanthropist, has been accused of sex trafficking after posting a tweet inviting women interested in sex work to audition for a group called "LA Dream Girls." According to her since-deleted tweets, she was inviting 15-20 interested girls to a mansion to be trained for success on OnlyFans and social media.
Ward went viral earlier this year trading nudes for donations to Australian Wildfire Relief, but this campaign is striking people as significantly more sketchy. For one, inviting a bunch of girls to a house to teach them to be sex workers sounds an awful lot like pimping.
Okay absolutely not this sounds like human trafficking 100%. You’re a new dancer as far as I know, haven’t been in the game that long and want girls new to the game as well to just blindly trust you to move in to a house with you to take their income? No no

Hey let’s stop fucking supporting the “naked philanthropist” who’s probably now working for human traffickers and is obviously good at hiding it. Do not fall for this shit. I took courses on intimate partner violence for my degree and this is a CLASSIC way to reel in girls. pic.twitter.com/jEfyQq4hqT

In light of the allegations, Ward took to Twitter to try and explain her rationale. In a series of videos, she explained that she could not list out all the details in her tweet, but she is trying to start a legitimate business.
“I am not upset that anybody’s asked me questions," she explained. "I understand that I didn’t provide all the information. There’s a lot that goes into it. I’m actually trying to start a legitimate business. I will have an HR team. I will have like, contracts. I will have actual employees."
I understand that I presented my idea way too soon before I was able to present all of the information and logistics, it was just something that I was really excited about doing and wanted to share with you guys.

According to Ward, her intention is to help emerging sex workers by providing tools they could use to be successful. While it's difficult to parse whether her LA Dream Girls company is in fact illegal until it gets off the ground, the controversy illustrates one of the challenges sex work faces as it becomes more socially acceptable in mainstream society, as the line between those who engage in it voluntarily and those who are being exploited remains blurred.
