Yesterday, The Pokémon Company announced that a new and potentially final trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet before the game's November 18th release would air at 6 a.m. PST.

"Turn on notifications," it said. "You won't want to miss this."

Though 6 o'clock in the morning is quite early for most people, diehard Pokémon fans wouldn't miss an opportunity to catch a massive reveal in real time. Perhaps the trailer would reveal the evolved forms of starter Pokémon Quaxly, Fuecoco and Sprigatito — after all, Pokémon Legends: Arceus released an evolved-starter-centric trailer three days before the game's January 2022 release.

With hopes high, Pokémon fans set their alarm clocks to go off a few hours early so they could tune in to what Pokémon was hyping up as a "very important" trailer. Instead, they got this:

The "very important trailer" Pokémon told fans they "don't want to miss" is less a trailer and more an AMV for the games featuring the Ed Sheeran song "Celestial," which he specifically composed for the games.

Nearly all of the footage is from the game's previous trailers. Naturally, this left many feeling ripped off and downright annoyed.

While Sheeran's song dominated both the trailer and the discussion of it after, there was one piece of new information the trailer gave Pokémon fans: the ground-type Pokémon Donphan will have two new forms.

According to a press release, a "Great Tusks" form and an "Iron Tread" form of the Pokémon will be in the game. "Great Tusks" seems to be a mammoth-like beast while "Iron Treads" looks like a very scary vehicle. This is in line with the time-travel themes each game seems to be going for.

Is that information enough to listen to four minutes of Ed Sheeran? The answer for many is no. Still, The Pokémon Company has 10 more days until the release of Scarlet and Violet to whip up a more substantial final trailer to get fans excited.
