Love it or hate it, you can't deny it: TikTok was the most-visited website of 2021, according to a recent report from Cloudflare. The app overtook Google, Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and others to claim the crown.

most visited websites chart

While it's unclear if Cloudflare included TikTok's sister site Douyin in the results, the announcement is nevertheless surprising for an app that was some may have considered a passing fad, like a Vine for silly dances and lip-sync videos. The results indicate just how much utility TikTok has gained over the years as not only an app for goofy musical content but also fashion influencers, political commentary, documenting IRL viral moments, and of course, memes.

According to Quartz, properties of ByteDance, the company that owns TikTok, are ranked 33rd in the U.S., indicating TikTok's win is thanks to its global audience, even though the app is banned in India. The publication also opines TikTok may have surged in popularity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The app seems to be the constant focus of in political controversy, but if Cloudflare's report proves anything, it's that TikTok is here to stay, regardless of if its detractors, whether they be politicians or humble memers, like it or not.
