Tributes (And Memes) Pour Out For Daft Punk After They Announce Split

Legendary French electronic duo Daft Punk announced they were splitting up this morning in an eight-minute video titled "Epilogue." Their publicist later confirmed the group had split, but did not give a reason.
Though the group has been largely inactive save since releasing their Grammy-winning album Random Access Memories in 2013, the news was still a massive bummer for music fans across social media. Daft Punk's music was highly influential throughout the 2000s, inspiring artists such as Kanye West and The Weeknd, both artists with whom they'd later collaborate with. In 2011, they produced the soundtrack for Disney's Tron: Legacy and had a cameo in the film.
Social media saw an outpouring of tributes to the act in the wake of the news.
Electronic music would’ve been a whole lot different without Daft Punk. Definitely going to miss them, but thank you guys for everything. pic.twitter.com/M0OwaB1ajQ

Daft Punk also left an indelible mark on internet culture. Their music and mysterious robotic persona lent themselves well to memes. In 2007, their track "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" inspired the Daft Hands trend, one of the earliest viral video trends on the internet. They've also inspired numerous mashups and memes such as My Name Is Giovanni Giorgio.
Perhaps their mark in meme history led people to pay tribute to their careers with some jokes of their own, as there were plenty of jokes posted as news of their split circulated through Twitter.
