'Wide Neck' Meme Star Charles McDowell Arrested Once Again, This Time For Aggravated Stalking And Withholding Support
Charles McDowell, better known online as Wide Neck for his notorious wide-necked mugshot, was reportedly arrested for the fourth time in four years this week in Pensacola, Florida on charges of alleged stalking and withholding child or spousal support.
The story broke yesterday, when WKRG reported that McDowell was arrested on one charge of aggravated stalking and one charge of withholding support, either for a spouse or child. Reportedly, a warrant for McDowell's arrest was issued in August after he allegedly sent threatening messages to a woman and showed up at her house uninvited.
With the arrest came a new mugshot of McDowell, who gained viral acclaim in 2018 after a similar mugshot that showcased his memeable wide neck went viral online. In that incident, he was arrested for drug possession and eluding the police.
Days after his first viral arrest in 2018, he was arrested again on similar charges. He was arrested yet again in 2019 after the bond for his original charges was reportedly revoked by a judge, sparking the hashtag "#FreeWideNeck."
At that time, Wide Neck was a part of the Supreme Patty-led creator collective Shrimp Gang along with the other viral neck star, Daddy Long Neck, who helped spread support for McDowell.
In the years following his 2019 arrest, McDowell made several posts on Instagram saying he never wanted to go back to jail. Last year, he boxed on the undercard for the Aaron Carter vs. Lamar Odom event against Drew Mournet and went viral on chiropractor Dr. Beau Hightower's channel, where he got his neck cracked to over 5 million viewers.
The story has been spreading across social media this week. One post on Twitter with over 16,000 likes at the time of writing is inspiring a whole new wave of memes about McDowell's neck, comparing him to thick-necked characters and imagining what it might be like to be stalked by McDowell. There are also a lot of people feeling nostalgic for the social media landscape of 2018 when Wide Neck was at his peak.
At the time of writing, no other information has been released regarding McDowell's arrest.
