The Legend of Zelda franchise has existed for 37 years, and Nintendo has never confirmed if its iconic characters Link and Zelda are dating, and no, a recent quote from Zelda's voice actress, Patricia Summersett, hasn't confirmed it either, despite a round of discourse around the content mill suggesting otherwise.

Speaking to TheGamer, Summersett responded to a playful question from writer Jade King, a self-described "fangirl whose brain has long rotted away thanks to romantic headcanons," about the potential romantic subtext in Link and Zelda's relationship. The question didn't come out of nowhere — in Tears of the Kingdom, Zelda excitedly gushes to two other characters about Link's bravery and trustworthiness. Players have also noted that in Hateno Village, Link's house has several items of Zelda's, suggesting the two may have moved in together between the events of Breath of the Wild and TotK.

"As a voice actor, looking at the overall relationship between Link and Zelda over the ages, I personally love the ambiguity and that if there is something there, it’s left to us," Summersett said. "I guess in my own life, I can respect and celebrate relationships that aren’t conventional."

The quote rang the right bells for several media outlets, and many ran with headlines saying that Zelda's voice actress had confirmed the pair are in a "relationship."

As a result of the media fracas that she'd inadvertently caused, Summersett tweeted clarification of her comments, emphasizing that her quote about Zelda and Link's "relationship" was not a confirmation that they are in a romantic one, and was instead an observation about how we are all in "relationships" with anything we interact with.

So no, Nintendo, nor Zelda's voice actress, have confirmed that Zelda and Link are dating, at least in the Breath of the Wild timeline. However, there really are a lot of clues in both games suggesting that they have a thing going, should you choose to believe it.
