While this is a funny image, I actually quite like the "don't pay, donate what you want" model for independent artists and the like. Example: say I converted some of Smooth McGrove's videos into mp3s and then put them on my iTunes, I'd be more than happy to give him a li'l sumthin sumthin on his Patreon.

However when big companies/established megastars turn to crowdfunding, then I get a little skeptical.

You support someone for giving you something in return. Stop being a douche. Considering this actually helps a lot of artists out, I can never be in support of this "They're asking money for doing nuthin'." mind set. Want to see more content from your favorite artists? Maybe consider actually paying them for a change.
