Its odd how they decided to promote this movie.
Usually when you make a remake, reboot, or an adaptation of some kind you already have a fanbase ready to go. You would want to capitalize on the nostalgia of the older fans while drawing in new fans some how.

But with the new Ghostbusters, they were outright hostile from the get-go.

I believe the Walker brothers (Doug and Rob of Channel Awesome) both said in their review the marketing for this movie was pretty shitty from the get go, and I'm in full agreement with that. As you said, most reboots or remakes will usually try and capitalize on nostalgia in order to bring in fans of the original, but in this case the exact opposite happened from various sources.
