2. Caecilus writes in the study
3. Caecilus stands and leaves the store (when he sees the barber slice his client's neck)
4. Caecilus disputes a money issue with a judge
5. Poppaea sees how great the theater is and wishes she could go (she's a slave)
6. Caecilus tells his son how, when he was a baby, he almost was killed by a dog but his slave
rescued him and won his subsequent freedom.
7. Quintus throws a discus and almost hits an athlete in the head (earlier, he throws another discus
and breaks a statue's nose. what an a------!)
8. Regulus, a roman consul, judges a gladiatorial fight between a Nucerian and Pompeian. After his
controversial decision, the Pompeian and Nucerian citizens lose their collective s--- and start rioting
in the amphitheater. Think international football riots or Canadian hockey. This started the famous
Pompeian riot of 59 AD, where Emperor Nero said "cut the s---, we're banning you from gladiatorial
fights for 10 years."
9. Quintus talks some s--- at his friend Alexander about how Romans are better than Greeks in
every way. Alexander drops the classical-era mic on his ass when he points out how Romans have
copied several of the Greek's accomplishments to get where they were with the burn "You Romans
are more Greek than we Greeks!" Alexander presumably got every Greek p---- until his death.
10. Mount Vesuvius blows its top, leaving Pompeii in a cloud of ashes. After prolonging Caecilius from
the inevitable and serving him wine, Caecilius gives Clemens his freedom and tells him to flee.
Clemens does not want to leave him. Caecilius forces the issue, lamenting how he could not find
Metella (his wife) or Quintus (his son). Caecilius then dies, leaving Clemens to find the rest of the
family. Cerberus stays at his master's side until the dog's death.
