Especially true in the Gene "Terrytoons" Deitch era. I know you cannot fire cartoon characters but that fat fuck of an owner should have still been fired.
That era of Tom and Jerry shorts is a very odd one. On one hand they feel so different from both the Hanna-Barbera and Chuck Jones eras when it comes to the level of animation and humor (animation was more low budget as it was being outsourced to eastern Europe circa Soviet occupation), but on the other this weirdness about them makes them really stand out as they all come off as very "unsettling" for some reason. Might be due to said lower budget animation, but also things like the slapstick humor feeling less humorous than before, and they all have this dark atmosphere that, no kidding, reminds me of a freaking David Lynch movie.
