11foot8 11'-8 10 mins The Durham Transportation Dept. has announced that the 11foot8 Bridge will be closed to all through traffic 24/7 from October 23 to Nov 5 in order to raise the 11'-8" Railroad Overpass. That should be interesting!

11foot8 ... 6 hrs · O Guess what fans? They LOWERED the crash beam. Yup! Too many of the trucks from recent crashes hit the bridge after they hit the crash beam so the railroad company lowered the beam by 2" to better protect the bridge. In 2019, we measured a clearance of 12'10" after they installed the new crash beam. They have now lowered it to 12'8", which is of course still higher than the posted clearance of 12'4". However, those 2 little inches are just enough to turn a scrape into a full peel as you will see in crash 167! Its live on Patreon now, and it will be live and ad-free for everyone tomorrow evening. 11foot8 11-8 1 hr х According to this NCRR document, the old Canopener bridge will be replaced with a new structure to increase clearance to 12' 4" - so an additional 8 inches! That makes a lot of sense. They will just replace the old structure witha new one with a thinner deck. That way the tracks don't have to be re-graded, but the additional clearance should improve safety and "de- claw" the Canopener bridge. Yes, documenting the crashes was an interesting project, but improving traffic safety WAS always the focus of this project. It will be fun to document the work and then to find out how the new structure changes the safety situation on Gregson Street. Stay tuned, and come out to visit the old beast one more time
