The Problem with Gen 8 (Version 1.2) The number of Pokémon in these games have been cut to include less than half of the actual National Dex, without any signs of implementing the remaining Pokémon to these games with a patch or a DLC About 144 moves have been removed from these games, including Pursuit, Hidden Power, Return, Frustration and Karate Chop. For a full list of deleted moves: http://pastebin.com/3hsjMEi2 Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves have been removed from these games making many Pokémon that made it into the games suddenly quite useless. The plot of these games are even for Pokémon standards exceptionally short and shallow, using the same tropes as in Sun and Moon. The games are easily finishable with only 15 hours of playtime This problem exists arguably since XY and is not a problem exclusive to Sword and Shield! The textures of these games are beyond mediocre and lack polishing and any other visible effort. There are only very few to none new "quality" animations GF has promised to justify the National Dex cut, and the games oftenly handle them quite bad. Another reason for the DexCut was the attempt at creating a new meta which will still be dominated by new and old powercreeps, reaching from Barraskewda to potentially even Kyurem(-B), Incineroar and many different legendaries which are coded into SwSh. There are constant graphical issues like constant pop-ins due to bad coding or sudden disappearance of trainer or Pokémon models in- and outside of battles Most of the animations used by Pokémon and trainers in these games are carbon copies of those present since Sun and Moon and even since X and Y back in 2013. The games are filled with unskippable cutscenes similar to Sun and Moon and seem to be more intrusive than ever with Sonia and Hop interrupting your adventure on a very regular basis. Restrictions and Handholding is as prevalent as ever before, with the routes and the victory road resembling hallways than previous comparable places in the mainline series. The games were not designed around the forced EXP Share and make the player quite quickly overpowered, making the games very easy. Constant heals even during the final moments of the games shattering any semblance of difficulty. There is no Post-Game content, outside of the rehashed Battle Tower and raid battles. In fact, the Battle Tower of Galar is inferior from previous Battle Tower analogues it doesn't have super single nor super double battles, it has no triple battles and there's no tower bosses. You're not able to catch Pokemon in the wild areas until you got a badge allowing you to do so, which usually covers your current level. Meaning if you find a Pokémon you really want, you won't be able to catch it until you go and beat the next gym. This has disastrous implications for random Shiny Pokémon. Since the OW animations of the Pokémon don't show if the Pokémon is Shiny or not this means that on top of the badge limit, you also got this as a potential problem. Dynamaxing is limited to gym battles and plot-related fights, thus virtually making the removal of Z-Moves and Mega Evolutions unnecessary. The scaling of these games is bad at best, even though dynamaxing is all about the size of the Pokémon. Wailord being smaller than the trainer and other curious sights make battles seem even more ridiculous than during the 3DS era There is no GTS for no reasons, even though it was a staple of the franchise for more than a decade. Pokémon Home is used as a scam to lock away the GTS and to store the Pokémon that didn't make it into these games. There are many instances of the games of using wrong or badly polished battle backgrounds, ranging from suddenly being in the wild area by fishing to indoor battles using void battlescenes unlike in LGPE The games' soundtrack is filled with unharmonic sequences, and is more often than not quite underwhelming In fact, there are some instances where no soundtrack is used, despite of the importance of the event, for example during the fight against the cover legendary. Many Pokémon are this time around shiny-locked, including the legendaries and the Starters. The entire world in Sword and Shield sometimes freezes when using certain items or interacting with the OW, for example using a ladder. The Wild Area of these games are underwhelming at best, and hideous at worst. The semi-open area is devoid of life and can be entirely surveyed in less than 15 minutes. There are no animations for flying and other similar actions, despite previous games including them. Cities are mostly empty and devoid of any meaningful content with no incentives of ever visiting some of them again Extremely shallow use of Britain as the main inspiration of the region, ranging from Pokémon usually compared to British stereotypes like Stoutland not being in the game to the lack of many analogues to British attractions. Fishing is still restricted to specific areas, similar to Sun and Moon. Unbalanced selection of Pokémon from previous generations with an overrepresentation (pandering) of Kanto Pokémon like Charizard and Pikachu. The Bike is used as the HM replacement instead of mounted Pokémon like in Gen 7 and LGPE, breaking the immersion of using your Pokémon to complete the adventure Pokémon in the OW do not interact with their environment in any meaningful way, making the entire point of OW encounters obsolete and void of any meaning. The Game was advertised as a game made for "long time fans", despite being still targeted at children at the age of under 12 Developers and Producers consistently lie during the marketing campaign about the work behind model-making and their effort put into these games. The games cost 50% more money with arguably less content than previous Pokémon games released since Crystal Questionable artstyle choices like using bright neon green for berry trees despite other trees not having these colours or pink hues in towns or battles make the world look even more artificial than it already is.. No following Pokémon, despite existing animations since Sun and Moon and their implementation in LGPE. The map is exceptionally small with only 10 routes and a barren wild area to "explore" The dishonest marketing campaign can be perfectly examplified with the lack of any announcement of the DexCut in Japan, their home market To this day, only the fans who actively follow all news and leaks of the game know of this. GameFreak is not, and I repeat, not a small indie developer. They hold most of the The Pokémon Company (TPC) with Nintendo only holding around 32% of the largest media franchise ever created as March 31 2019. Game volume settings now require an optional (!) key item called Hi-tech Earbuds to be accessed GF does this, but won't put in a toggle for the EXP Share. If the 2020 games do not include the National Dex as well, it won't have full trade and battle compatibility with Sword and Shield essentially forcing you to buy the 2020 games if you want to participate in the other meta. It should be noted that signature or trademark moves of Pokemon in the game are cut like Heal Order, Ominous Wind, and Heart Stamp. And yet Light of Ruin, still attached to a Pokémon that's never been released, is still in the game. The games use mostly the same models as in the 3DS games, with only a much higher vertices count. The amount of triangles is the same.
