Here's a Shrek meme I couldn't resist making. Like several others, I feel the success of the first "Shrek" movie in 2001 pretty much shaped future animated feature films not in a good way, to the point where in addition to the CGI animation (since it's easier to make), they'd frequently star cynical talking animals or poke fun at a fairy tale, feature celebrity casting and pop culture references, gross-out and toilet humor, pre-existing pop songs in the soundtrack, and the frequent genre-savviness. And then the flames were fanned even more with the successes of Blue Sky's "Ice Age", Pixar's "Finding Nemo", and of course DreamWorks's own sequel "Shrek 2" (the source of this meme). Though at least lately there aren't as many animated features like this anymore, but the 2000s and early 2010s was kind of a rough patch for them, though DreamWorks and Illumination still tend to make movies like this. (At least Disney learned their initial attempt at this with 2005's "Chicken Little" proved to be a big mess, and largely went back to what made their older animated films great in terms of storytelling and characters, even with the all-CGI animation.)
