ndiecity : Anonymous (ID: DSfdBk9e The Shopping Cart Theory 05/08/20(Fri)09:52:50 No.256670690 The shopping cart is the ultimate litmus test for whether a person is capable of self-governing. To return the shopping cart is an easy, convenient task and one which we all recognize as the correct, appropriate thing to do. To return the shopping cart is objectively right. 1.16 MB PNG There are no situations other than dire emergencies in which a person is not able to return their cart. Simultaneously, it is not illegal to abandon your shopping cart. Therefore the shopping cart presents itself as the apex example of whether a person will do what is right without being forced to do it. No one will punish you for not returning the shopping cart, no one will fine you or kill you for not returning the shopping cart, you gain nothing by returning the shopping cart. You must return the shopping cart out of the goodness of your own heart. You must return the shopping cart because it is the right thing to do. Because it is correct. A person who is unable to do this is no better than an animal, an absolute savage who can only be made to do what is right by threatening them with a law and the force that stands behind it. The Shopping Cart is what determines whether a person is a good or bad member of society. B alicejoestar this post was written by a jrpg villain whose origin story was working at walmart Text

Here in germany there is a chain that connects each cart to the next which can be seperated by inserting a coin.
Re-inserting the chain is how the coin is retrieved in turn.

Aside from the very occasional drunk, nobody leaves their cart unreturned.

But what of people that:

- Return the shopping cart just to avoid potential judging glares from people around them..? Would that be just fear of social pressure..?

- Return the shopping cart because they think there could be negative consquences for them if they do not do it since they are not fully acquainted with laws and market regulations..? Would that be just ignorance..?

- Return the shopping cart because some family member that is with them told them to do so..? Would that be just blind obedience..? Or;

- Return the shopping cart because that one nearby person that looks like one of the market's employee is on line of sight and would notice you leaving the cart there..? Would that be just playing it safe..?

There are many layers and different scenarios that could easily throw a wrench on this theory grounded purely on morality once you really think about it. A lot of external factors that alter the experiment's natural outcome.
