The jettisoning of any sort of story arc for Finn was not the worst thing the Disney trilogy did, nor was excluding him from posters in China, but the hypocrisy is pretty funny regardless.

Please note that they reshot a lot of Finn's scenes to be more comedic because Disney and Kennedy didn't think he had the acting chops to pull off the role as it was originally written. This is also why Phasma doesn't do anything in the movie, she was a last minute addition because Kennedy saw some concept art for Kylo Ren and demanded they make it a female villain.

These changes forced on TFA made Abrams hesitant to come back for TROS, and only did so when Bob Iger promised him creative control and protection from Kathleen Kennedy and the story group, and then both Iger and Kennedy fucked with the movie anyway, making it an even bigger mess than it already was.
