Hulk is part of Bruce Banner, this has been stated multiple times. Hulk is his repressed anger and hatred towards and unfair world that where created because of his shitty childhood (abusive dad, etc). When he got hit by that radioactive experiment that just unleashed that part of him and gave it self awareness.
