They suffered very heavy losses, but they managed to capture the hill. However, due to the strategic worthlessness of the hill, the position was abandoned shortly afterwards.

<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_de_Groux">Henry de Groux</a> was a Belgian Symbolist painter, sculptor and lithographer.

Henry de Groux: Assault de Grenadiers (The Grenadier's Assault)

As you can probably tell, the source is a French essay on the works produced by Henry de Groux during the the First World War. It's a good read if you are interested in war art, but you'll either need to speak French or use a translator for it.

This is a lithograph depicting soldiers with gas masks, by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_de_Groux">Henry de Groux</a> (1886-1930), a Belgian symbolist painter and sculptor. Images of the war in newspapers made a deep impression on de Groux. The things he saw and his own experiences urged him to create a series of drawings, etchings and lithographic prints about the atrocities of the conflict.

<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_de_Groux">Henry de Groux</a> was a Belgian Symbolist painter, sculptor and lithographer. This image depicts a frontal assault of the German lines at the fields of Verdun.

Gizbert Combaz: Louvain

This drawing shows the people of Leuven, Belgium, fleeing the city. Flames are visible in the background. On 25 August 1914, German soldiers burnt down the city after killing hundreds of civilians. This later became known as <a href="https://www.bl.uk/world-war-one/articles/~/link.aspx?_id=630620716BDE470784A2D44752019459&_z=z">the 'German Atrocities' of 1914.</a>

It is the work of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gisbert_Combaz">Gisbert Combaz</a> (1869-1941), a Belgian lawyer, artist and professor in the decorative arts. He was known mainly for his posters, but he also painted, made lithographic prints, designed book covers and even furniture. He is one of Belgium’s most prominent art nouveau artists.
