I don't think they apply to modern day politics in most forms of media. Cultures based around battle, valor, and pride is nothing new. If anything they're just there to represent a conquest focused culture, like the Vikings or Mongolians.

Also, I see we have gatekeeping Yaoi now.

I just see Orcs as your usual badass warrior tribe with multiple clans, each with its own traditions.
