My grandfather rented out his second home & was always back and forth fixing things to keep it in good condition.

When he died my parents inherited both houses and now they're always back and forth fixing small issues like scratched paint here, a cracked window caulking there, etc.

The mid-sized guy I rent my current 1br/1bth place from, though, is a fuckin ghost and so are his only 2 employees. I haven't heard from the manager since I moved in, but she still addresses all my texts next day. Groundskeeper, too. I see him all the time, I never see him working, but the place is still immaculate.

Hell I'm not even sure the guy is still alive given that I've been here 4 years and the last rent increase was $25 3 years ago despite all the shittier corporate operations surrounding it having risen about $400/mo in the same timespan. I just drop a check off every month because he's an old fart who doesn't understand direct deposit and that's that.

But definitely fuck those large-scale corporate operations where the owners are a board of like 8 investors who have managers to manage the managers that manage the managers that tear out the sidewalk every week.. Those "landlords" just push money around and schmooze with city council members and can get fucked.
