Technically that's true, as you can buy stuff with Venezuelan Bolivars or Spanish Pesetas. But since Bitcoin is so volatile, most people reject them as payment.
I used to use Bitcoin a lot, but when they put all those anti-laundering regulations in place it became essentially impossible for me due to some irregularities on my various IDs (which, frankly, was part of the reason I used it so much in the first place). It's bad enough that if I were to get a sudden Bitcoin windfall somehow, I'd spend it on fungible goods rather than trying to cash it in (and I wouldn't hodl at this point).
