In Yoshi's Island, Dark Blue Yoshi is playable in all final levels of a world except 6-8. He can actually also be seen waiting at 6-8 initially, but is surreptitiously replaced by Green Yoshi when the player reaches World 6-6, and never returns.

However, if the player uses the R button to scroll the map while only the beginning of World 6 is unlocked, Dark Blue Yoshi (appearing dark purple on the map) can be seen waiting at Level 6-8. However, when the player reaches Level 6-6, a glimpse of Green Yoshi can be seen on the map at Level 6-8 (bottom right in image). Green Yoshi has replaced Dark Blue Yoshi and remains at Level 6-8 on that save file forever from that point onward. Hookbill's original design

E Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog Internal files for Yoshi's Island show that the original concept for Hookbill the Koopa was a Birdo/Koopa hybrid creature. Despite being consistently paired up with Yoshi in Mario spin-off games, Birdo or anything Birdo-related has never appeared in a single Yoshi game. Internal fles for Yoshi's leland shov that the original concept for Hookbilthe Koopa was intended to be a Birdolkoopa hybrid. This would have been the only appearance of a Birdo in a Yoshi game, as despite alvags being paired up vith Yoshi in spin-off tiles. Birdo has never been in an actual Yoshi tile. The sprites for the boss also contain an animation for the head that appears to show the boss spiting an egg, as is common A remnant of this oan still be seen in the finished game. How to die on the pause screen

How to imprison Yoshi (and baby Mario)

Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog 000 In Yoshi's Island, it is possible to trap Yoshi in a tiny 32x32 pixel space forever simply by bouncing off a Shy Guy to get to a specific ledge in Level 4-1. Details in image. In Level 4-1, if Yoshi has no eggs, he can still get to the Super Star behind the yellov wall by bouncing off a Shy Guy. Yoshi can then Flutter Jump to the ledge with the Super Star. However, upon turning into Super Baby Mario, he cannot do anything, as he is unable to destroy the yellow wall. 19 After the Super Baby Mario timer runs out, Yoshi will turn back to normal. However, he still cannot do anything, as he has no eggs to destroy the yellow wall with. Yoshi is trapped in this small space forever until the player uses the Start menu to esit the level. If this level was not beaten yet, the game must be reset. So apparently Naval Piranha can be either the shortest fight in the game or the longest.

Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog Follow In Yoshi's Island, a glitch can delay the Naval Piranha battle by 25 minutes. If Yoshi is underwater when he approaches Naval Piranha, there is a chance that Kamek's theme will play, but Kamek himself will only appear 25 minutes later to start the boss cutscene (details below). If the Naval Piranha fight is activated when Yoshi is underwater, there is a chance he vill not surface. Naval Piranha will look away from Yoshi instead of at Yoshi. Alkhough it appears that the game is softlocked, after waiting approsimately 25 minutes, Kamek finally appears and starts the boss transformation cutscene. Yoshi finally surfaces and the battle resumes normally.
