Take a quick skim through your extended family's Facebook activity and assess for yourself how well that has worked out.

I don't disagree with this, but it does pretty conveniently ignore the malicious actors (many of whom are a part of THE REGIME (or at least some regime) who managed to manipulate the anarchy of "everyone's a reporter" for their own agenda.

Traditional media has guardrails imposed on it for good reason. Each new form of mass communication – from the newspaper, to the radio, to the TV – had an initial boom of altruism that was busted in exactly the same way the internet is being busted now.

This is why we can't have nice things.
