"Since Greenwich and Great Britain are world time monopolists, and Russia is conducting a military operation in Ukraine, the leadership of the Royal Observatory decided not to take into account its territory in world time. Thus, we will deprive the Russians of access to Greenwich Mean Time and time difference calculations," said researcher Bill Robson. According to the decree, Russia will be excluded from all eleven time zones in international navigation, and time in its cities will be stopped. In addition, the country will be banned from using the UTC index and determining the time difference with its time zones. The sanctions will not affect other countries previously located in the same time zones as Russia.

That results in a lot of death, and they need to keep the meat grinder back. So they need 30K men a month to just keep up with the losses, and it takes months for the wounded to recover to fight again (if they're not just send back to the front to die). The reported average casualty ratio is 3:1, which is pretty bad. Russians face horrific losses when they're on the offensive, but Ukraine also faces losses when they attack as well so it evens out to 3:1.
