I'm all up for hatting on gamefreak but how have they gotten more ambiguous ? If anything they've gotten more explicit. Sure the old ones were named after the places they're based on but unless you do some research and squint really really hard you wouldn't know that.
Meanwhile after gen 5 at glance you get what these places are meant to be even if you're culturally illiterate and if you aren't culturally illiterate then it's a tourists check list.
