The point of checkmarks was to verify that the tweet was actually being made by the person it appeared to be made by, not to "verify" if the information is correct. A "verified" Ben Carson account can claim the pyramids were for grain storage. That's very different that what appears to be National Geographic making the same claim.
It cuts both ways. Rich trolls, including those from other countries presumably can make dozens of "verified" Twitter accounts that look like those of actual politicians, CEOs, teachers, workers, etc to impersonate them in order to make them harder to elect or to be fired. I don't see this being something that will be abused only by one side.
Cutting the price by 60% because one author complained about it can only mean one thing: You have no fucking clue what you're doing. The new price isn't even close to the original price. What, was the original price just a fucking meme? Was it a joke? Was $240 a year supposed to be funny? Richest man on the planet, zero business sense.
Let's be real though, the fact that it's supposed to be a subscription service at all is what's embarrassing.
