The German version takes it further and gives them names that parody the TMNT: Citronello, Melanzano, Pomodoro and Asparago. Most people who played Paper Mario would be able to recognize the bosses of Chapter 1, the Koopa Bros., as parodies of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from the multimedia franchise of the same name, being a group of four color-coded ninja turtles. However, in most languages, the references stop at the visual design. Unlike the TMNT, who each have individual names inspired by Italian Renaissance artists, the Koopa Bros. are simply named "Red Ninjakoopa", "Yellow Ninjakoopa" etc. The German localization takes the reference a step further and gives each of them a name that is an Italian word for a food of a similar color, parodying the Italian names of the TMNT. In Super Paper Mario, it is possible for Mario to become trapped in a claustrophobic situation, squished by the ceiling in a room barely larger than himself and unable to use the door to get out.

Super Paper Mario contains a group of tiny stores called Itty Bits that are only accessible by using the Pixl Dottie's ability to shrink in size. If Mario flips into 3D, starts entering an Itty Bits store, and then the player opens the menu on the last frame before Mario enters the door, it is possible to switch from Dottie to another Pixl, whereupon Mario will enter the store and grow to normal size simultaneously. Contrary to expectations, using glitches to do that does not result in Professor Toad being absent - instead, the game overcompensates and spawns two Professor Toads. Don't leave without me! In Paper Mario: The Origami King, Professor Toad waits in the entrance room of the Fire Vellumental Cave while Mario explores it. When leaving, he says "Don't leave without me!" before rejoining Mario's party. In Paper Mario, there is a blue Toad at the Toad Town train station who tells Mario that he wants to tell him something after Bowser is defeated and peace returns to the Mushroom Kingdom. It is in fact possible to walk around Toad Town after defeating Bowser, though Mario can only visit certain rooms during this. Trying to go towards the train station will cause a Toad to stop Mario, making the blue Toad unreachable.
