I would argue she is more of a symptom of Kathleen Kennedy's leadership at Lucasfilm, she was cast as the director, not hired, the problem comes from how disingenuous she comes across, saying that "It's about time we have a woman shape a story in a galaxy far, far away" implies that women never shaped a Star Wars story beforehand, deliberately ignoring Marcia Lucas, who won the Academy Award for best editing with Paul Hirsch and Richard Chew for the original Star Wars back in 1977.
