Mr. Chedda, also known as Mista Chedda, is an AI-generated image of a mouse dressed in a suit and stretching its arms out as if greeting someone. First posted in December 2022, the animal achieved virality online in July 2023 as "Mr. Chedda" following a viral tweet with multiple cheese puns.

Origin

On December 12th, 2022, Twitter^[1] user @funnygamedev posted an AI-generated image (presumably made with a tool like Midjourney) of a plump mouse in a business suit holding its arms outstretched as if in a greeting. The post received over 20 retweets and 140 likes in seven months (shown below).

Spread

On July 21st, 2023, Twitter^[2] user @usersauce tweeted an image of the mouse together with a viral photograph of five e-girls sitting in a car, captioning it with a humorous dialogue in which the mouse, referred to as Mr. Chedda, invited the girls to have a gouda time and took them to The Cheesecake Factory restaurant. The post (shown below) garnered over 13,200 retweets and 78,300 likes in four days.

The tweet was widely shared online, including reposts on iFunny^[3] and Instagram.^[4] The viral spread of the post inspired more humorous posts featuring Mr. Chedda over the following days. For example, on July 24th, 2023, Twitter^[5] user @bongoism posted a Dinner With Jay-Z or $500K meme that received over 4,800 retweets and 48,600 likes in one day (shown below).

2024 "Mr. Chedda Is AI Generated" Controversy

On January 6th, 2024, X^[6] user @_flowersnax posted a drawing of Mr. Chedda, writing, "so it turns out the mista chedda pic is ai generated. so i took it upon myself to make a hand-drawn version here u go," garnering over 31,000 likes in three days (shown below).

The post inspired further redraws and redesigns of Mr. Chedda. On the same day, X^[7] user @Wari_VA posted a redesign that gained over 98,000 likes in the same span of time (shown below).
