The second is that it was all a clout farm. Engagement peaked with Valve's tweet and then immediately fell off. All was running on nothing but hype, but for the movement to ever work, it needed to maintain constant pressure, and you don't get that with hype. Creators got views and you got nothing. And now, there's two additional issues. Both stem from this being no longer the first time. Valve now knows exactly what to do to get you off their www, and the novelty wore off, so there's gonna be less traction. There is a severe case of wishful thinking and delusions of grandeur plaguing this game. To cite an example, for the longest time, people within this community firmly believed that TF2 had solid player numbers. Upwards of 70K people playing this game. By now everybody should know the truth. But this revelation is nothing new. People have known for years, yet it only finds acceptance when one YouTuber comes along and disproves an utterly delusional stance on the matter. We had websites like Teamworktf displaying the real player numbers all these year, yet people would frequently put those into question. If you genuinely believe that 200K players flocked to this game during the summer update, then I can't help you. This brings us to today. Now we have our second big attempt to defibrillate this dead game by having everyone act like toddlers. "Whee whee, fix my game". That's all I hear from this movement. Let's be serious here for a second. Valve doesn't care. Why should they? Give me one good reason why Valve should dedicate valuable resources to fixing this nearly two-decade-old game. The revenue it generates is less than pocket money to them. And as far as reputation goes, Valve's cash-cow is Steam. $I grow weary of this f------ forum and, frankly, deliberately antagonizing people while airing out my legitimate grievances isn't funny anymore. here's a moderately sized list of every reason you SHOULDN'T support fixtf2 1) team fortress 2 is older than the majority of the people currently pushing this inane movement and is INFAMOUS for its spaghetti code. do you want to work on a game this old, shambled together using awful duct-tape fixes for everything? no, no one does. 2) developing functioning anticheat is a cat-n-mouse game at best and a sisyphean task at worst;, not even massive companies with several thousand employees can develop anticheat for modern games that remains undefeated, even kernel level anticheat can be bypassed these days, the treadmill work simply isn't worth it. considering tf2 barely breaks even money-wise 3) valve is a privately traded company, your complaning will to nothing to shift their actions, the only reason review bombing worked for helldivers 2 is because sony is publicly traded, meaning they had to answer to their shareholders. shareholders can sue the hell out of any company that isn't living up to expectations, thus sony had to buckle to the community, valve has no such weakness, steam alone makes so much money that a complete and total boycott of the tf2 marketplace wouldn't even make a fraction of a dent in their overall profits. 4) valve's unique horizontal structure guarantees that nobody will work on t12 unless they want to be fired. in place of middle/upper management, valve has cliques and ego-driven senior devs that judge your decisions, choosing to work on tf2 instead of anything the senior devs prefer will almost certainly result in your termination from the company, that kind of work environment doesn't exactly facilitate the idea you can just get a job at valve and work on tf2 yourself. 76561199584261538- 46 minutes ago #FixTF2 Is killing tf2 The author of this topic has marked a post as the answer to their question. This is a HUGE change that is simply too good to ignore. For details, you should read this amazing guide, but in short this means that setting up a public server is now easier than ever before. With -enablefakelp, you don't have to worry about neither port forwarding nor your IP falling into bad people's hands. As explained in the guide, which I again encourage you to read, you can either launch a local server (with the map mapname command or the "create server" button in main menu) or, if you want plugins and a lot more control, a dedicated one. If you're starting a local server, you'll need to use "sv_lan 0" and change the map once to make it show up in the browser as well as to connect to the item servers, and if you want a dedicated one, you'll have to set it up manually which isn't hard at all. Just follow one of the guides from the wiki: Windows Linux I don't know about you, but I've always wanted to try running a TF2 server with silly/amateur-made maps or plugins and play on them semi-seriously, just like in casual. And if you don't enjoy silly things like the many serious members of this forum, you are more than welcome to host your own thing that you wish to see. That's the kind of mentality I want to sprout from this. In a dream scenario where this idea takes off, maybe some people will even be making their own maps, plugins, mvm missions or host events where players will be able to submit their stuff. It will be pure, unadulterated community-made fun just like back in the day, and it will be awesome. The only downside of the -enablefakeip method is that the server's IP will be different every time it's launched, so sadly people won't be able to favorite it. At least, not unless a way to stabilize the IP is found or already known. For that reason and for the purposes of actually getting players on the server, I propose posting about it in this thread whenever you start one up. Previously I thought that it would be nice to use the desolate "looking for players" subforum for this, but nobody really goes there and hopefully the mods won't see it as advertising if it's all in one place. Additionally, if you're using a dedicated server, I think it's a good idea to use a tag specifically to mark these kind of "run by people, for the people" servers. I recommend "enablefakeip, savetf2, fixtf2". I know the last two are cringy, but it's already a well- established thing, so it wouldn't be hard to remember and would only garner more publicity. Ever since the failure of the first hashtag. I have been saying that the Team Fortress community is ironically awful at working as a team, so if you truly want to #save or #fix TF2 and prove me wrong, now would be the time to do it. The reason why it worked for that game it's because helldivers 2 is a huge revenue stream and a high priority to Sony, the game is also very popular so it was also bad for their reputation. TF2 steam threads expose not just how unorganized SaveTF2 is, but also how TF2 youtubers blatantly lie and propagandize information to get a stronger reaction and profit off of this movement

Despite being 16+ years old, Team Fortress 2 is one of the most played and most beloved games of all time. However, despite its massive community and long- lasting impact on gaming, TF2 is in an unplayable state. Starting off strong with a bunch of blatant misinformation here. TF2 is NOT one of the most played games of all time (beloved is also questionable). Despite popular belief, TF2 did not peak at 200,000 players like people have led you to believe, the information giving by steamcharts is not accurate, as it counts online players and not players in a server. Lastly, the only long-lasting impact this game had on gaming is introducing micro-transactions, so you can thank TF2 for the reason you have to pay for skins in every new game that releases. The game is overrun with bots that instantly kill every player trying to play the game, spread hate speech, and use their power over the community for financial gain. We want to show Valve that there is no room in the community for the problematic individuals who host these bots, and This Petition is not a direct means of changing things, but a show of numbers for the number of people who want to take a stand against them. While it is true that the game is overrun with bots, they are easily avoidable. Players can also kick them out easily. I'd say the cheater problem is worse than the bot problem as cheaters are harder to detect than the blatant spinbot sniper spamming The petition is just an example of how disorganized, and how unplanned this new *SaveTF2" is. The fundamental flaw of this hash tag is the fact it was concieved By youtubers For youtubers. They will always try to deny this but it's true, it was just a big advertisement. Not to mention the fact that they continuously push it. They weaponize their audiences by saying "Valve will definitely do something good this time, just spread this word everywhere! Its totally not advertising its caring for the game!" Instead of actually doing something helpful like spreading the word of community servers and how they can be used to avoid the bots, they decide to do this, this awful movement and brainwash people into loving it. Hell people get so brainwashed they go out of their way to attack anyone who doesn't support it (but thats a topic for another thread). Going back to the petition, its funny how they spread misinformation and ignore literal solutions for the sake of convincing someone to sign it. Its sad to see the community just fall for the SaveTF2 trap expecting anything to change, and then they make a petition expecting it to be the thing that definitely saves them. Change.org petitions rarely do anything and this will never effect anything whatsoever. voice lines and a noisemaker. Not to mention that community servers exist, if you really find kicking bots out of a lobby THAT terrible you can join one of the countless servers that have their own anticheat in place. Also, financial gain? Bot hosters don't get money for hosting bots, I have no idea where this point even came from? The only Its also sad to see people drop actual f------ money on this petition. Even buying a people who get financial gain from bots are TF2 YOUTUBERS as they profited heavily tf2 hat is f------ something, this is nothing. You are just wasting money on a thing off of the original #saveTF2 movement, and are probably planning to again since you that will never happen. The most this petition will ever do is make change.org 100 suckers love throwing them money. more dollars. Valve must do something, because these bots shouldn't have a platform in a beloved and massive game like TF2. We're asking for an open dialogue between Valve and the community. We understand that Valve has other responsibilities, but they have a responsibility to take care of TF2. We ask for open communication from Valve and more clear indication of their plans for TF2. This was mostly sparked from the item servers, because god forbid you cant use your crutch weapons or show off your femboy uwu loadout for 2 days. If you buy an item or read the TOS, you would know that if you spend money, your items will disappear if valve feels like it because you technically dont own it. This was the thing that sparked a second save tf2, and all of the sudden the tweet they were happy Valve will not do anything, and that is a fact. This is a false hope operation and I don't with was all of the sudden the worst thing that ever happened. know how people refuse to see this? The first time didn't work, so why would it work again? Especially with even less people backing it this time... You start another #saveTF2 because the item servers are down for a couple of days? What a joke. God forbid you lose your 5,000 dollar inventories for 2 days guys. Maybe enjoy the game the way it was intended to be played without all of the crutch unlocks? Valve does not do open dialogue, and they never will. It is also not their responsibility to take care of TF2, as the game is not in an "unplayable" state. Unplayable means that you are not able to play the game. I can boot up TF2 right now and get in a match. (Because it won't do anything) yet like the hive-mind the TF2 community is. they throw away their money on a useless petition that won't do anything anyway.
