"There's no money" (<i>No hay plata</i>) is one of the slogans repeated by Javier Milei, current president of Argentina, to justify a series of budget cuts of the Argentine state. His campaign infamously also consisted in saying that he will cut international relations with China, Brazil and Russia. Once he became a president, he realized that the Chinese currency swap was very important for the economy, and <a href="https://www.lapoliticaonline.com/politica/milei-cede-ante-china-y-le-manda-una-carta-a-xi-jinping-para-que-libere-el-swap/">sent a letter to Xi Jinping</a>. In the worst possible moment, the Canciller said to the Chinese representatives that <a href="https://infonews.com/todo-mal-con-china-se-cayo-el-swap-y-hay-cortocircuitos.html">she considered Taiwan a country</a>, something that goes against the one China policy that very few countries challenged in a meaningful capacity. Five days later, China suspended the currency swap. Thus, Milei's slogan came back to haunt him.
