Because a weapon isn't the only way to cause serious harm. Zimmerman had wounds, so he was certainly attacked in some way. Don't tell me that his wounds weren't serious; how is a man to know at which point wounds become life threatening while he is under attack? Is he supposed to sit there and take the beating until the exact moment his wounds become dangerous?
He had a gun, he used it to defend himself from attack. He wasn't arrested at first because his story matched what the evidence implied. There was no doubt until people decided to make a racial debate over the whole thing. Petitions for "justice" got Zimmerman arrested, and because the evidence proves his story is the most plausible, he was acquitted. Let it go, people. Seriously. There is racism in this country, a lot of it; that doesn't mean every death is a racially motivated, cold-blooded murder.
