I Watch It For The Plot - The salvation of anime!

KLK doesn't take it's own fanservice seriously, and is very good at being that good-kind-of-dumb with over the top action scenes and, well, Mako's entire character. It also does have a fun story that is incredibly ridiculous. the show still comes of as smart to me though. The creators were smart, if the story isn't. and it has some pretty cool metaphors and symbolism like the other guy said. a more blatant message of the show is to be comfortable with your own body and self and not feel shameful. And I think that's a pretty good message for people. and the best part is it can portray stuff like Clothes as a method of social control and not get all pretentious about it like other media might.
