Also I'm no pro, but is it just me or is Link's forward tilt more reliable as a finisher than his regular forward smash?

Lol, just lol. That's completely backwards. Pit has better arrows, a better forward tilt, and against characters that doesn't have a terrible horizontal recovery, he also has a better Side B. Beyond those things, the only difference the two are their Final Smash.
