GET Methods Method #1: Blind Post This method involves complete and total luck. You come to 4chan with absolutely no idea of what is happening, post somewhere normally, and when you check your post, you obtained a GET. These GETs are mostly deemed as fail since they usually have nothing to do with the GET. However, there is no denying that these GETs are the most legitimate. Method #2: Post Number Monitoring Through Page Refreshing This method involves refreshing the page over and over again until the post count is at a certain number. Then, when you believe the post count is correct, you hit "Post" and obtain the GET. This is less legitimate than Method #1 due to refreshing the page to monitor the post rate to give yourself a greater advantage than someone posting randomly. This method is used by the majority of people going for GETS. Method #3: Post Number Monitoring Through a 4chan URL This method involves using a 4chan URL to check when a new post is created by refreshing the URL over and over again until it no longer shows an error. Then, when you believe the post count is correct, you hit "Post" and obtain the GET. This is less legitimate than Method #2 due to using a URL that isn't known by most posters. However, since this URL is provided by 4chan itself, it is still considered legitimate. Method #4: Post Number Monitoring Through Non-4chan Means This method involves using a post number monitoring script through Greasemonkey (or other in-browser extension), a website that monitors 4chan's current post count, or an external program that monitors 4chan's current post count. Then, when you believe the post count is correct, you hit "Post" and obtain the GET. This is less legitimate than Method #3 due to using means outside of what is already given to you by 4chan. There are those that do not consider GETs obtained in this manner to be legitimate due to the usage of off-site tools, but there are others that do consider them to be legitimate as the poster is still the one who pressed the "Post" button. Method #5: Automatic Posting This method involves automatic posting with the use of a script through Greasemonkey (or other in-browser extension) or an external program. When a board reaches the post number you want, the script or program will automatically hit the "Post" button. These GETs are considered illegitimate by most posters. Method #6: Thread Moving This method involves having your post moved from one board to another with your post being moved at the exact right time to obtain a GET. Only certain members of the 4chan staff have the ability to move threads, so a GET obtained in this manner is considered illegitimate. Method #7: ModGET This method involves a member of the 4chan staff obtaining a GET using special means. This is done by using administrative privilege to edit a post that already obtained a GET, preprogramming a board's code to automatically make a certain post number show up a certain way, and so on. Without exception, ModGETs are considered to be the most illegitimate GETs on 4chan. Method Modifiers It can be argued that since the original iteration of 4chan never used a CAPTCHA, all posts made that bypass it (such as with a CAPTCHA solver, purchasing a 4chan Pass, etc.) are legitimate. However, others say that using an outside extension to solve a CAPTCHA is the same thing as using an off-site tool and is therefore less legitimate. Likewise, there are those that say paying for a 4chan Pass to make a post is "pay-to-play" and isn't fair for non-paying posters who have to solve a CAPTCHA. These arguments are in the same domain as a poster with a high speed connection competing against a poster with a slower connection. Do keep in mind that using anything to bypass the CAPTCHA in order to post does raise legitimacy issues, but the amount is constantly up for debate.
