Denver shooting

I just saw this on 4chan, apparently there was a post on 9gag awhile back saying a 9gagger was planning the massacre. I'm not sure if this is true, but it might be a thing.

Oh why oh why do people like this exist? It's times like these where I wish I was never born into human race.

Those poor people. They just wanted to watch a movie, and ended up with an irrational fear of Batman for the rest of their lives. YOU HAPPY NOW, CRAZY COLORADAN SHOOTER? IS THIS WHAT YOU WANTED?

Went and watched the movie today. I enjoyed it.

But when I walked out and drove home, I was thinking about the people who weren't able to enjoy it because of the tragedy. We go to movies to relax and be entertained and escape from the hassles of our life. The last thing we expect is someone to walk in and start shooting. They didn't finish their movie, and I'm not sure if they will watch it. Their experience was ruined. This one person ruined it all for everyone in that theater. I really hope they make it up to the victims.

It's a sad day. And it might be a while before we know the whole story on the shooter too.

So, I herd America doesn't liek gun control?

Yeah, cus the fact that the guns were legal really made a difference in the fact that a man shot and killed/injured a bunch of people.

Fact is, this man would have gotten his weapons even if they were illegal. Gun control will not keep ciminals from getting their guns.

This story made me really scared though, because I was at a midnight premier for this movie myself (granted, it was in eastern Mass and not many shootings of that nature happen here) but when I heard this story I had horrifying images in my head of if either of my siblings or our dates got injured or killed in an event like this. Rather dampened the excitement I felt for going to my first midnight premier.

But it was a great movie… right guys?… heh…

From what I can get, 12 are dead and 59 are wounded so far. One of the deceased is a child, unfortunately.

The shooter who got caught, James Holmes… is more sick than I thought.

According to police sources, Holmes told the officers arresting him that he was "The Joker," referring to the villain in the second installment of the Batman movie trilogy, "The Dark Knight." He also warned police that he had booby-trapped his apartment, leading officers to evacuate the Aurora apartment building. Chief Oates earlier today said that police, bomb squads and the ATF have found a large number of explosive devices and trip wires at Holmes' apartment and have not yet decided how to proceed without setting off explosions. "The pictures we have from inside the apartment are pretty disturbing considering how elaborate the apartment is booby trapped," police said outside of the apartment complex today. The "flammable and explosive" materials could have blown up Holmes' apartment building and the ones near it, police said. The apartment complex is home exclusively to University of Colorado Medical Center students, patients and staff members, residents told ABC News. Oates this evening said police will allow residents to retrieve personal belongings but leave the booby-trapped apartment alone for now, and inspect them Saturday with the help of federal law enforcement. Residents are staying at a local high school in the meantime. Oates didn't know many people are displaced from the five apartment buildings involved.

This gives me chills just thinking about it.

Just updating this thread a bit:

  • He admitted to police that he was on 100mg of Vicodin; whether this was the cause is still unknown or not announced to the general public.
  • 27-year old Alex Sullivan died. He was seeing the movie to celebrate his birthday. He was married and their anniversary was going to be this Sunday.
  • Jessica Gawhi's mom shares last text from her minutes before she died
  • Warner Bros cancels personal appearances of Dark Knight cast and crew at Mexico and Japan premieres.

Dude, not funny.

May God watch over the victims' families, friends, and those who survived.

Too soon. That's all I'm going to say.

FTFY. And yeah, if this guy really was re-enacting that Joker scene, then he really makes Harris and Klebold look like saints. Almost.

By the way, if there is no guns for sale on America, then how do you get Guns on GTA 5 faster? (without cheats, I know is different though, I'm just kinda curious about for next GTA, that's all.)

The next GTA is set in California. The gun laws here are some of the strictest in the country. It takes 10 days for you to get your gun if your background check comes out clean, that's for a rifle or shotgun. For a handgun, you must take a handgun safety test. Also, no automatic weapons are for sale here. Same thing with new York(liberty city) in GTA4. You will get them like every other criminal does, on the black market.

It was near this shooting? (As you've inferred from your quote-correction.)

Most offensive thing I found on facebook:

This is what crossed my mind when I first heard of the shooting. Did the shooter want to recreate that sense of chaos that The Joker did? A lot of people could see The Joker's point in The Dark Knight, in theory, and I know there are enough people that don't care about the well-being of others (or enjoy the pain of others), so there are bound to be those who have both attributes.

However, there will always be people who lack sympathy. It's a disorder, and it's something that might show up on occasion in the gene pool, and natural selection just don't plain work like it used to (people might find people like this attractive, and all you need a few kids to continue that trait (assuming it is heritable).)

And there will always be movies and entertainment that questions society. When you're talking about people who were already shunned for being weird (and I'm willing to bet that this guy was one of them,) they see no need to even bother continuing on in a society that has already rejected them. And if you find a guy or a woman that can figure out how to get a gun and make some explosives, then something like this is bound to happen.

Don't get me wrong: I'd like stronger gun laws in America, and I don't necessarily think that owning a gun yourself is somehow going to prevent the other guy from shooting you. But I do think it goes against the spirit of the Second Amendment (The right to keep and bear arms,) and like others have said, if people want it, laws won't stop them. It can slow the legal process of obtaining them, but if they plan on doing harm with those guns, then they aren't above getting them by illegal means. The legal process is going to be ignored anyway.

I heard that he was dressed up like Bane, but called himself the Joker. And yes, he was reenacting a scene from The Dark Knight (or The Dark Knight Rises) Comic Book where the Joker shot up a movie theater.
Well, it won't be long until they find Metal and Rock music on his ITunes Account or IPod and start blaming the Artists (like when Marilyn Manson was blamed for Columbine).

May the victims all rest easy.

EDIT : I also heard that he had the apartment and theater rigged to blow by remote, but he did something wrong and they never went off.

I came to give you guys some jokes and lighten the mood.

But then I read the thread and saw the links.

And it really isn't funny. For many, this will be a Dark Knight in their lives.

I think it's worth mentioning that DC has the strictest gun laws by far but has the most violent crimes as well. Still, as an owner of multiple firearms, I wouldn't be against a 10 day waiting period in every state. Restricting firearms does not stop crime. I think Mexico is an example of that. And you will think twice to rob a house or steal from a farm when you know the owner might be packing a gun. In cases such as gang violence or crazed gunmen, I wouldnt imagine packing heat would help much though. You could defend yourself though.

Yes, if criminals or lunatics want guns, they'll get them, plain and simple, so draconian gun laws are not going to work as yeah, the criminals are not just going to give up their guns.

And unfortunately, you know the politicians on both sides are going to place the blame on things like the Batman movies, the comics, rock music and violent video games instead of pointing the blame where it lies, the crazy person himself.

I don't really get the motivation behind this shooting. I mean usually there is a reason behind a rampage, there is a guy who gets bullied at school, drops out of university or does it for his belief.
In the end, the people who have to pay for an amok run are strangers who where at the wrong place at the wrong time.

This guy has planned the killing for at least two months. He baught the weapons, munition and mined his own appartement. So he must have thougt about it for a long time, did he really only want to be the joker? This sounds so absurd.

Your asking about motivations from a crazy person? Dude, that's just going to make your head explode. The guy was crazy, enough said.

Actually, the guy did drop out of university before the shooting I believe. He was working towards a PhD in Neuroscience or something (yikes). No wonder he's insane.

@Kasrkai
You basically just read my mind

Well, what makes it more disturbing is that it was someone else who shot up the theater in "The Dark Knight Returns" comic.

Basically, the shooter stands up and pulls out a gun during a Batman porno I think.

The guy who did it probably didn't read any comics. He likely targeted a packed audience, but they have to heck his apartment.

ProTip: Criminals do not follow the Law.

You should've seen some of the comments on GameFAQs about this. Some of the posters though that by banning guns there would be no guns for the criminals to get.

facehoof Sorry, but criminals still find ways to get guns, gun laws or no. GameFAQs users, but thankfully some of the other posters had the sense to realize that yeah, even with the laws in place, criminals will still get guns.

like i said even if you ban guns heres the thing criminals break the law

No.

Batman was involved in the shooting.

By him being involved, it means its his fault.

Therefore, I say we ban Batman.

Using reverse inductive logic to prove a point isn't exactly the soundest way to produce an argument.
