About
Beako (ベア子) is the fan-created lolicon-opposing loli figure of Japan. She is most known for chastising lolicon imagery using her catchphrase, “Damn all you lolicon! (このロリコンどもめ!! / Kono Lolikon-domo-me!!)”. Ever since her debut on the internet, the Japanese internet community has harbored a mass of fan art on Pixiv.
Beako is rather obscure in the English-speaking internet, so few English sources are available.
Origin
Beako originated from the popular 40 year old manga GeGeGe no Kitaro’s side character Back Beard. Beako’s saga comes from this part of the manga, where Back Beard says, “Damn all you lolicon!”:
This image was posted to a thread on 2chan, and turned into a copypasta, spawning derivatives; but none were more popular than the female anthropomorphic version, Beako.
(note: in Japanese forums, the practice of creating a female mascot from anything, including inanimate objects, phrases, and even software is very common.)
This character was created by doujin artist Torotei (とろてい) in 2005. Since then the loli mascot overshadowed Back Beard as users turned to draw more fan art of her.
Sankaku Complex
English Japanese blog Sankaku Complex has become the English base for Beako and lolicon pictures, and so Beako has become the de facto mascot of the blog site.
