About
Figu@Mate (Japanese: ふぃぎゅ@メイト, Figyu atto Meito) is a Japanese adult game relased by Escu:de in 2006.[1] Its opening movie became to a popular video in the earliest days of the Japanese video sharing service Nico Nico Douga (NND) due to the typical "Dempa Song"[2] style of the theme song, and became to a subject for parodies and a musical resource for MAD videos.
Origin
Figu@Mate was released on November 24th, 2006, and its opening movie including the theme song "Gacha-Gacha Cute Figu@Mate" (ガチャガチャきゅ〜と・ふぃぎゅ@メイト) was uploaded to the official product page for promotion.[3] This song was composed and performed by Mosaic.wav[4], a Japanese moe-pop band well-known for its many dempa song works from the rise of the scene in the first half of 2000s.

This addictive dempa song came to light on February 6th 2007 when the video was submitted to the beta test version of NND which was running the service by hijacking YouTube videos.[5] It became to one of the hit videos in the earliest days of that video sharing site, alongside Let's Go! Onmyouji, Kishimen, LoveCheat! and the Prince of Tennis Musical. People had re-created this movie by anime music video (shown below) or classical parody video style, and those much contributed to the chaotic frenzy at the birth of NND. Partly due to the help of the online popularity, this song achieved to release a CD single in April of 2007, and won the Japanese Moe Game Award for best original song in that year.[6]

Sadly, there are few historical records archiving the memories of Figu@Mate in those days on NND because most of those instances including the original footage were forced to be removed for violation of the community guidelines for sexual explicit contents in each web services since the opening movie contains girl's nipples.
Meanwhile, this song again earned a popularity as a musical resource in MAD videos in around the spring of 2010 when this Shuzo Matsuoka edition was posted to NND.[7] Though its fad was short, dozens of MADs following the style of this video had been created.[8]
