Judy Hopps is the main character from the Disney Pixar movie Zootopia, released in March 2016. Hoops is depicted as a gray bunny who's a police officer in the film. She's been frequently used in fan art and referenced in online discussions on furry culture since her inception, as well as appearing in various memes such as I Will Survive and Nick Shocks Judy.

History

On June 11th, 2015, the official Walt Disney Animation Studios YouTube channel uploaded the teaser trailer for Zootopia, which heavily features the character Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps showing up near the end of the trailer,^[1] that went on to get over 17.5 million views in seven years (shown below).

With the release of the movie, one of the first meme images that used Judy Hopps came in the form of a reaction image using her reaction to the sloth Flash trying to help her and Nick run the plates of a car. This scene was uploaded to YouTube by the channel Mr. Platin^[2] on September 23rd, 2016, where it gained over 3.4 million views in six years (shown below).

Online Presence

Shortly after the movie's release, Judy Hopps became a prominent subject online, both within the furry community and elsewhere. For example, the Cosplayer SAIDA Cosplay created a cosplay design based on Judy, and on February 29th, 2016, uploaded photos of it to Facebook^[3] where it went on to get over 3,100 likes within six years (shown below).

The character also began to get sexualized online in Rule 34 imagery, with many memes referencing or outright stating the character's attractiveness and how, much like Lola Bunny, it seemed as though a rabbit character was purposely made to be attractive to human standards. This can be seen in the meme uploaded to Reddit by Redditor^[4] NorthWestSP on March 29th, 2016, comparing Jessica Rabbit, Lola Bunny and Judy Hopps (shown below).

I Will Survive is a webcomic created by DeviantArtist Borba featuring characters from the 2016 animated film Zootopia. First published in March 2017, the comic has become a popular exploitable in early December of that year with many mocking the approach the comic took to the issue of abortion rights. While many accused the comic of taking an "anti-abortion" stance, Borba has denied the comic was written to push a pro-life agenda.

Nick Shocks Judy

Nick Shocks Judy is a meme template from the DeviantArt fan comic I Will Survive by Borba. The meme uses a panel from Nick Wilde saying something to Judy Hopps, which is drawn visibly shocked by the statement. This panel more than others from the comic has seen a lot of use as an exploitable.

Both Are Naked And Covered In Oil

Both Are Naked and Covered in Oil, Who's Winning the Twerk-off? refers to a series of Who Would Win? memes in which the viewer is asked to decide which of two people or characters would win in a twerk-off below the catchphrase. The meme format gained virality on Twitter and Instagram in early May 2022.
