What is a Kikoolol?

KIKOOLOL 1. Peuplade illettrée majoritairement pubertaire, explosée de rire les trois quarts du temps. Kikoo Lol! Sava ? Lol a)

Kikoolol, often shorten as Kikoo is French derogatory slang aimed at a peculiar caste of people which is generally represented by very young kids, most of time about 12-13 years old, and their way of using Internet by speaking with SMS, phonetic translations of words and overuse of well-known Internet idioms and emoticons. As a result, and following the growing development of popular French blogs such as Skyblog, appreciated by the aforementioned teenagers, Kikoolol can also describe that peculiar way of speaking, language, and usage in same vein, even if not really similar, as the Filipino Jejemon phenomenon.
The slang comes from two distinct words : Kikoo which is a misspelt version of Coucou (roughly meaning "Hello" in French) and LOL, one of the first as well as most famous Internet acronyms.
The two words together, Kikoolol, are believed to be what a Kikoolol would always state when greeting someone on Internet, either on a chatroom or in a forum post.

Origins/Early development

[Work in Progress]

One of its earliest mentions on the French web is from a June 2005 Flash game in which one has to kill drawn depictions of Kikoolols shouting Kikoo, Preum's (French version of First) or MDR.

Phenomenon on the French Web

Since late 2005, several guides as well as tutorials have been made on the web to explain what exactly is a kikoolol. Here is a selection :

Kikoo 2.0 (October 2005)
K comme Kikoolol (December 2005)
French Uncyclopedia article (first begun in June 2007)
Gamekyo.com article (March 2008)
Le phénomène Kikoolol (April 2009)
Massive Star Quizz forums article (March 2010)
Z correcteurs forums article (April 2010)

Following the Uncyclopedia article, a single service website called k1k00101z has been made in 2008, redirecting to a flash RickRoll. The other available section from it offers a definition of Kikoolol with an overload of violent shiny colors that are often attributed to be abused by underage blog goers, Skyblog being considered their prime hideout.
It's also around 2008 that a Kikoololisateur has been created. It allows people to replace any normal website by its Kikoolol equivalent.

The slang has also been featured in the LOL French wikipedia article, has its own translator (dating from 2009) and many Facebook groups/pages exist as well, poking fun as the nuisance Kikoolols represent to the web.
The Let's slaughter Kikoolols with dictionaries page has currently over 12 000 likes while One day, Kikoolols will rule the world ! But not tomorrow because we'll go to B3STAAH has over 86 000 likes.

Finally, there is another single-serving website named after it which serves as a collection of the worst Kikoolol sentences submitted by users, as well as an online magazine at Kikoolol.info.

Kikoolol and Kevin

Kevin, although unrelated to its formal use as a first name, is a derogatory slang to describe the gamer counterpart of Kikoolol. A Kevin is composed of the same [underage + obnoxious antics + misgrammar] formula but is more active in videogames-related places and especially in MMORPGs. A direct synonym of it is Noob.

Aside from French Unclycopedia articles dealing with the Kevin's language or ways of killing him, even naming the female equivalent as Vanessa, other websites such as geeky-oriented Nioutaik contains articles such as How to get rid of a Kevin or making it #1 reason of the most annoying things in an MMORPG.

One of the firsts article dealing with Kevin as that peculiar phenomenon is from the following 2006 link about Kevin 13 ans (13 years old Kevin).
Moreover, and starting in 2007, a website entirely dedicated to it, named Kevin-Attitude, was launched.

Finally, in the French web-series Noob, one of the main characters representing the archetype of a newbie player, is called "Kevin" as a pun.
