About

The Protomen is an American Nintendocore rock band known for their rock operas inspired by the Mega Man video game franchise. The band is known for their live shows featuring detailed costumes, props and audience participation.

History

The Protomen were initially formed in 2003 by several Middle Tennessee State University recording graduates.[1]

Their self-titled debut album revolves Mega Man's attempts to save a dystopian society. The second album, Act II: The Father Of Death, is a prequel that shows how Doctor Light and Doctor Wily created the city.

Reputation

The band became increasingly popular after gaining exposure from gaming-related news sources, including 1 UP, Nintendo Power, and Escapist Magazine.[3][4][5] As of January 2014, the band has gained over 26,000 likes on Facebook[6] and 10,000 followers on Twitter[7]. In addition, the band has its own subreddit[8], TV Tropes article[9], a fan-run Tumblr blog[10] and a DeviantArt group[11]. Eventually, the band began to play out-of-state and at conventions such as PAX and DragonCon. The band also launched a Kickstarter page for a documentary[12], which was funded within five hours[13]. The band is involved with a number of upcoming projects in addition to the final installment of the story, including a cover album, a music video for Light Up The Night and vinyl releases of previous albums.[14]
