On April 7th, 2003, Santorum expressed that he believed homosexual sex should be government regulated similar to the way bestiality, incest and child molestation are restricted in an interview with the Associated Press.[6] After drawing harsh criticism from the press and various civil rights groups, sex advice columnist Dan Savage organized an open contest for people to come up with a definition for the word "santorum" that the Republican senator would find offensive, and the winner was announced on June 12th.

santorum (san-TOR-um) n.
1. The frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter
that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex.

The single serving website Spreading Santorum[7], dedicated to spreading the contest definition, eventually became the top Google result for the search query "santorum" after a successful Googlebombing campaign.

2016 Candidacy

On May 27th, 2015, Rick Santorum announced his plans to run for president of the United States as a candidate for the Republican nomination. He made the announcement from a factory in Cabot, Pennsylvania, his home state.[46] Santorum joined a crowded field for the Republican nomination, as more than a dozen other candidates have already decided to run. Through Twitter, Santorum offered a series of platform positions, including an anti-abortion stance, throughout his announcement day. However, he stayed away from the issue of gay marriage.

When speaking about the impact the new run will have on his famous Santorum neologism, Dan Savage said that he might not "crank up the Wurlitzer one more time." However, as of May 28th, 2015, a Wikipedia entry describing the Google bomb incident continues to be the top organic Google result for "Santorum." [2]

Santorum also unveiled his new campaign song, entitled "Take Back America", which according to media site Uproxx includes lyrics like:

This is for the man, workin’ the factory, makin’ drivetrain / This is for the farmer, workin’ the wheat fields, growin’ long grain / This is for the preachers, the teachers, blue collar warriors, this is for believers whose dream are on the line [47]

Hey girl, I don't want you to think that I'm unsympathetic to the plight of single mothers and the working poor I want you to review my voting record and know that I am unsympathetic to their plight. Hey girl, l know that sometimes being a second-class citizen in a world of corporate personhood and privileged white male heteronormativity can be a real bummer. But that's God's plan, so stop complaining. MBIMOTMOG.COM

After Santorum won three states on Super Tuesday, there was another peak in joyful tweets.[45] Many of these also mentioned Obama, showing that Twitter users saw Santorum's wins as states that will be easily won by democrats.

Reputation

Political Beliefs

Santorum is considered both a social and fiscal conservative. In foreign policy, Santorum has criticized Obama for not doing enough to block Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Santorum has proposed if elected, he would pressure Iran to open its facilities for international inspection and if the Iranian leadership did not comply, he would take military actions to bomb the weapons sites. In regard to energy and environment policies, he is known for skepticism towards the mainstream scientific opinion on climate change and has said that global warming is a "beautifully concocted scheme" by the political left and "an excuse for more government control of your life."

Porn Ban Pledge

On July 9th, 2011, Yahoo News[12] published an article about Santorum's pledge that he supports banning both same-sex marriage and pornography.

The vow asks candidates to affirm a pro-marriage stance, oppose same-sex unions, defines homosexuality as a "choice" (stating there is no empirical scientific proof that being gay is genetic), and notes that marriage is undermined by adulterous factors like quickie divorces and pornography.

On January 5th, 2012, the story resurfaced on the /r/politics subreddit[13] and reached the front page accumulating over 13,000 up votes within 24 hours and inspiring the creation of several image macros.

There, they spent several hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2. They took photos, sang lullabies in his ear and held a private Mass.
