"Sakura Reflection" is a popular soundtrack from a Japanese arcade music video game REFLEC BEAT, which is produced by KONAMI as a part of BEMANI line.^[1]

This song has been used in many YouTube Poops Music Videos (YTPMVs) on YouTube and MAD videos on the Japanese video sharing service Nico Nico Douga (NND) since 2011 partly due to its deeply relationship to a Japanese gay porn phenomena A Midsummer Night's Lewd Dream.

Origin

This happy hardcore track "Sakura Reflection" was writen by a Japanese composer Ryu☆^[2] who has also produced other popular audio tracks for online parody videos: "Second Heaven", "Ageha", "I'm so happy" and "Bloomin' Feeling". It was first included as a secret track in REFLEC BEAT which was released on the Japanese arcade in November 4th, 2010.

The earliest instance reusing this song in MADs was uploaded to NND on January 10th, 2011^[3], which featured a Japanese funny dancing TVCM meme Ippon Manzoku Bar. But this couldn't become the trigger of this fad.

Spread

The trigger video that led subsequent popularity to this song in MADs was uploaded to NND on July 12th, 2011, which featured a Japanese TV anime series Strike Witches.^[4] It was made by the same author of "I'm so Cookie☆", a derivative of a Touhou Project related meme Cookie☆ in another MAD fad "I'm so happy", and the originator of the editing style "Cookie☆ Respect". Therefore, This video titled "Blue Perrine-chan" also contained explicit sexual scene taken from Japanese gay porn videos.

Because most of videos in this series follow the editing style of this video which is named "Blueberry Respect" (ブルーベリーリスペクト), similar to "I'm so happy", those videos have the same sequences: throwing and catching something in the middle part and inserting random contents in the last part.

On NND, more than 250 videos tagged under this song have been uploaded^[5], and most of them are "Blueberry Respect" style MAD videos.^[6] Additionally, this song has also been reused in YTPMVs since the middle of 2011, and many of them follow the "Blueberry Respect" style.^[7]
