Stock photographs are the images that are created specifically for commercial use and licensing. They're photos of general scenarios, uninteresting tasks and people that are appropriate to use for ads, presentations and whatever else they're needed for. Or that's usually what they are. Since there are so many stock photos out there, they can get pretty strange.
