Tributes Pour In For Beloved Comedian Carl Reiner On Twitter
After 98 years on Earth and over 70 years of publicly entertaining others, beloved comedian Carl Reiner passed away last night in Beverly Hills. Reiner received critical acclaim for creating The Dick Van Dyke Show and for directing The Jerk, Where's Poppa? Oh, God! and All of Me. He was born in the Bronx, served in World War II, and received the Mark Twain Prize For American Humor in 2000. He leaves behind three children, including his son Rob Reiner who directed When Harry Met Sally and The Princess Bride.
Sadly, Reiner also left behind his best friend, fellow comedian Mel Brooks. Reiner and Brooks met way back in 1950 while working on Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows. They went on to establish their own duo and created the sketch 2000 Year Old Man which resulted in five comedy albums and various television specials. After losing their wives, both men have shared dinner with each other every single night while watching Jeopardy! And, if they had time, they would even squeeze in a movie too.
After this sad news was shared on Twitter, tributes flooded in for the comedian, who at 98-years-old, tweeted every single day up until his death. While Reiner's name obviously shot to the trending topics, his best friend's name did too, with many expressing how awful they felt for Brooks.
Rob Reiner confirmed the news of his father's passing early this morning.
Last night my dad passed away. As I write this my heart is hurting. He was my guiding light.

Steve Martin, star of The Jerk, called Reiner his mentor in work and in life.
Goodbye to my greatest mentor in movies and in life. Thank you, dear Carl. https://t.co/H7A4ZwIqfc

Dick Van Dyke declared Reiner his idol.
My idol, Carl Reiner, wrote about the human comedy. He had a deeper understanding of the human condition, than I think even he was aware of. Kind, gentle, compassionate, empathetic and wise. His scripts were never just funny, they always had something to say about us.

Jerry Seinfeld who featured Reiner on an episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, shared his admiration for the comedy legend.

Others who either worked with Reiner, or were fans from afar, shared their memories.
My friend Carl Reiner died last night. His talent will live on for a long time, but the loss of his kindness and decency leaves a hole in our hearts. We love you, Carl. pic.twitter.com/QWyNOYILhW

He was one of the greatest comedy minds of our time. And one of the kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. RIP Carl Reiner.

I have fond memories of the few times I got to work with Carl Reiner, but what stood out the most is how he'd always seek out the writer to offer compliments before getting started. Which, given half of my generation got into this because of the Dick Van Dyke show, pretty great.

I was 17 years old & got my first break from rob Reiner – I met his father met Mel brooks – I felt I’d been transported into a dream – wildly kind supportive generous I thought – this Hollywood place is amazing Little did I know how lucky I was -

Even The Muppets joined in on tweeting.
It's hard to think of many people who were as funny as long as Carl Reiner. He made me laugh 'til I couldn't anymore… then I'd laugh even harder! I wanted to be like him (only with more fur). A legendary comedian, a legendary life. Comedy – and all of us – will miss you, Carl.

While Mel Brooks has yet to speak on Carl Reiner's passing, others have reflected on their beloved friendship.
I’ve known Carl Reiner my whole life and I can’t imagine a world without him. A loss for me, a loss for my family, a loss for all of us.

One of the greatest moments of my life was sitting in Mel Brooks’s office as he called #CarlReiner in front of Billy Crystal and I and proceeded to wind him up for 30 minutes as they both made fun of my name and said it needed an extra consonant. pic.twitter.com/lGh9ux3cSi

So sad to hear about @carlreiner Not only did he make my favorite TV& movies (see:Where’s Poppa) but his humanity was beyond compare. His heart was so full of love. Never left his house empty handed- book, space pen, Swiss Army knife. RIP to a man that embodies the word mensch pic.twitter.com/mazBmwznkX

Oh man, not Carl Reiner. 98 and it still feels far too soon. So devastating for his family, and my heart genuinely aches for poor Mel Brooks. Who will he watch Jeopardy with every night now?

My first thought on hearing Carl Reiner has died is that Mel Brooks' has lost his TV dinner buddy

The thought of Mel Brooks having dinner without his best friend tonight after all these years…

The last photo shared of the duo came just a few days ago, when they celebrated Brook's 94th birthday.
Photos taken on Sunday, at Mel Brooks’ 94th bday dinner. Mel’s best friend Carl Reiner was there the day before he died (last night) at age 98. Living the most incredibly full, long & wonderful life up until his last hours. Others in photo Carl’s daughter & agent George Shapiro pic.twitter.com/jFaLuB1455

Whether he was expressing his love for his dentist, or his admiration for the film Enough, it's clear that Reiner had one of the best Twitter accounts.
This afternoon I was in awe as I felt my brilliant dentist, Dr. Joel Strom work on my 98 year old teeth and do what was necessary to help them continue biting, chewing and enjoying a plate of spaghetti & meal balls

Just watched Jennifer Lopez in "Enough" and appreciated both Lopez and the film for the third time.

And one of the best lives.
Nothing pleases me more than knowing that I have lived the best life possible by having met & marrying the gifted Estelle (Stella) Lebost---who partnered with me in bringing Rob, Annie & Lucas Reiner into to this needy & evolving world.
